Q&A with John Bocco

Taifa Stars Striker John Bocco is the hottest property in Tanzanian football.
The 23 year old has been Azam's top scorer since, joining the club in 2007. He managed to score nine goals in his first season (2009/10) in the Tanzania Vodacom Premier League and scored 13 goals in the following term.
Last season he emerged top scorer in the Vodacom Premier League netting 18 times. He is a prolific striker and a top asset for both club and country.

SuperSport.com caught up with the Taifa Stars striker ahead of their world cup qualifier against The Gambia.

SuperSport.com: What was the feeling after finishing the top scorer in the Tanzania Vodacom Premier League?

Bocco: It was the best moment of my career, to become the top scorer in the league. Its a great achievement for a young player like me, who still has a lot of years to play. And I'm aiming to maintain my performances and try to achievement in the future.”

SuperSport.com: How was your trip to Abidjan and the game against Ivory Coast?

Bocco: Our trip was good. The climate in Abidjan is like here in Dar es Salaam. We trained well, we played the game and we lost the game at the end. It was painful to us players, but that's how football is and you have to accept the results as a player.”

SuperSport.com: How was it like to play against World class players like Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and many others?

Bocco: Its very fortunate for us players who play in local leagues to meet such high rated names face to face. And it gives us courage and comfort, for players like us who want to be like them in the future. It was tough playing against them.

SuperSport.com: How are the training sessions getting through?

Bocco: We have had several training sessions previously, and some in the future - and the players are doing well and responding positively to the coach. And we players have a close relations and united, and really working hard in training focusing on the next game.

SuperSport.com: How do you find your partnership with TP Mazembe striker Mbwana Samatta in the frontline?

Bocco: He is a great player, good lad too. And his contribution in the team is great, its good to have a top performer like him in the team. We are good friends.

SuperSport.com: How do you find Kim Poulsen as the National Team coach?

Bocco: He is a good man, wise too. He has been doing pretty well with us, he teaches well and we players understand him well. I have seen changes in the team since the game against Malawi in terms of what he has been teaching us. There is an improvement in the team. And we keep on working harder and harder.

SuperSport.com: What are your expectations towards the game against Gambia?

Bocco: We expect the game to be tough, but we as players and after losing our first game, we will go out there with full spirit to win the game and turn this round for us.

SuperSport.com: What will be the feeling, when the National team qualifies to the World Cup?

Bocco: It will be a historical moment, it will be unbelievable moment for the players and the country. Because I believe it has never happened for Tanzania. We will work hard, to play in world cup one day.

SuperSport.com: What do you say to the home supporters towards the game against Gambia this weekend?

Bocco: I call on for full support from all Tanzanians, and come cheer us as Supporters not as fans, because when we are out there we represent the whole country, and we do it for the country. Their support will be vital to us, and they will make us fight till the end to get the best results, because football is a game of 90 minutes.
